I live in Philippines and this summer it becomes so hot.
Get thicker curtains (I had nice black fake leather curtains) and keep them shut while the sun shines in your windows. That will work as long as you aren't in a humid environment.
You could place a bowl of cold water in your room near the window to keep the humidity in the room and when the wind blows through the opened windows water gently blows around the room, this works well for people with Hey-fever and Asthma too!
Keep bedroom door closed when not there and open the windows so there will be wind blowing in....
Keep the windows covered during the sunshine invasion. Hose down the outside walls after the sun is setting. Put your PJ's in the freezer if you use pj's.
Get a fan and not an aircon?
There is a special heat resistant paint that you can apply on your terrace floor.
get the room haunted. You will get a cold shiver whenever you walk into the room.
try installing a ceiling fan
