I switched on my lights this morning and the lights on the wall went bang! when i took the fixings off the wall it looks as though the wires that feed the lights are burnt. can anyone help me by giving me some idea of whats gone wrong and how it is sorted before i call the electrician out.

You have a short circuit - that is the live wire has touched the earth or neutral wire. this could be due to a loose connection or the insulation being damaged or bad connection in the first place. You need to check the wires that have burnt and cut them back to good wires/insulation - if there isn
